Women’s Groups

Wednesday’s Women Book Group

Dates/Time:     Wednesdays at 10:30 am. Beginning:    Wednesday, September 20th

Description:

We’re not a book club – we discuss chapter by chapter.  We’re more a group study with reading assignments usually a chapter at a time.  We meet as a group of women for the purpose of reading a book together.  The bonus outcome is that we become friends and share our own life stories as they relate to the current author’s story.  Our desire is to remain a “small group”, but we always have room for one or two more and the start of a new book is a great time to jump in.

Our first book this fall will be: “Love Wins: A Book about Heaven, Hell and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived” by Rob Bell Bestselling author, international teacher, and speaker Rob Bell addresses one of the most controversial issues of faith—hell and the afterlife—arguing, would a loving God send people to eternal torment forever? Rob Bell is an electrifying, unconventional pastor whom Time magazine calls “a singular rock star in the church world.”  With searing insight, Bell puts hell on trial with a hopeful message—eternal life doesn’t start when we die; it starts right now. And ultimately, Love Win

4th Thursday Women’s Book Club

Our next book discussion is on Thursday, November 30th (due to Thanksgiving being on November 23rd).  Please join us at 7:00 pm in the Fireside Room at Faith to discuss this nonfiction book, THE STRANGER IN THE WOODS: THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF THE LAST TRUE HERMIT by Michael Finkel.  Many people dream of escaping modern life, but most will never act on it.  This is the remarkable true story of a man who lived alone in the woods of Maine for 27 years, making this dream a reality—not out of anger at the world, but simply because he preferred to live on his own. BORN A CRIME: STORIES FROM A SOUTH AFRICAN CHILDHOOD by Trevor Noah

My name is Christine Ruth, and I’m the Associate Pastor here at Faith Lutheran.  I don’t know about you, but as a busy mom in a “crazy” season of life, I find it difficult to make time in my schedule for developing and deepening Christian friendships.  My efforts to balance my roles wife, mother, friend, and employee often crowd out my need to focus on my own Christian growth and identity.  Between attending soccer games, work events, and juggling other demands for my time, I often find myself getting lost in the shuffle!

Consequently, we’ve launched a ministry here at Faith for 20-40-something women called “Moms Connect.”
This is one of the most rewarding things I do here at Faith.  The purpose of this ministry is twofold:  1) to build Christian friendships, and 2) to deepen spiritual growth. We are excited to offer both an AM group and a PM group.  The AM group meets weekly Thursday mornings beginning Thursday, September 21st.  The PM group meets weekly Monday nights beginning Monday, September 25th
from 7:00-8:30pm.  We keep the reading portions short (less than 30-minutes a week) and will only include one or two chapters of a book per week.  You’re welcome to try it out for a few weeks or commit for the rest of the semester.
The “Moms Connect” leadership team works hard to create an authentic, non-judgmental environment for women, who may be in a wide variety of places in their Christian journey.  Anyone in the community is invited to attend.  Some of you may have no faith background whatsoever, and we welcome you!  This will be a great place to explore, ask questions, and just be yourself.

The AM group will be reading a book this Fall called, Irresistible Revolution
by Shane Clairborne – an excellent book on finding ways to live out the”kingdom of God” among our own neighbors, friends, work places, and schools.  You can buy it here at church for $11.00 or purchase the book on your own.
You can register here:

Register for AM “Moms Connect” HERE  Childcare is available during the AM group for $5/week (pre-registration required) and will be available on-site.  If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at christine@waconiafaithlutheran.com

I hope that you will prayerfully consider making time in your life for YOU.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.   We look forward to meeting you!

Warmly,

Pastor Christine Ruth    Cadee Winnie (AM)    Lynne Fredrickson (AM)

PM Moms Connect

Monday night Mom’s connect is starting a new book, Daring Greatly by Dr. Brene Brown and we would love to have you join our group
.

Daring Greatly is not about winning or losing. It’s about courage. In a world where “never enough” dominates and feeling afraid has become second nature, vulnerability is subversive. Uncomfortable. It’s even a little dangerous at times. And, without question, putting ourselves out there means there’s a far greater risk of getting criticized or feeling hurt. But when we step back and examine our lives, we will find that nothing

is as uncomfortable, dangerous, and hurtful as standing on the outside of our lives looking in and wondering what it would be like if we had the courage to step into the arena—whether it’s a new relationship, an important meeting, the creative process, or a difficult family conversation.

Daring Greatly is a practice and a powerful new vision for letting ourselves be seen.
