Proclaiming the promises of God in Jesus Christ is an amazing gig. I especially enjoy preaching, deep conversations around the Bible, open forums where questions emerge, and inviting people to discover the ways in which they’re ministers. I also really thrive when I’m working within communities to discover connections and identify opportunities. I love being a pastor. I’m elated to serve as the Senior Pastor of Faith Lutheran.

A Minnesota transplant, I’m originally from Nebraska. I have degrees from Hastings College, Nazarene Theological Seminary, and Luther Seminary. And, I served as a pastor and taught on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for over a decade. I also occasionally teach as an Adjunct Instructor at Luther Seminary.

My spouse is Amanda. She’s amazing. And I have two daughters, Sophia and Olivia. They’re amazing, too. We also live with a couple of dogs: Martin Luther and Nicholas Buttersnaps.

I like to read and write. I’ve been roped into doing endurance sports a couple of times, and I play several rock instruments at an average level of competency. As a far as hobbies go, I’m open to just about anything if someone invites me.

Originally, I hail from Chaska, MN. I received my BA in Religion at Gustavus Adolphus College in 2010. After college, I traveled in South America and lived in Chimbote, Peru for a few years. My husband, Jose, and I returned to the United States in 2013 so that I could begin seminary. We spent a year in breathtaking Chelan, WA where I served my internship congregation, Lake Chelan Lutheran. In 2017, I graduated from Luther Seminary with my Masters of Divinity. My husband, Jose, my son, Benjamin, and I now live in my hometown of Chaska.
I began serving Faith Lutheran in October 2018 and was ordained later that month. I am excited to become a part of this vibrant faith community where people are growing in their relationships with God and with one another as we strive to love and serve both God and neighbor.
A bible verse that guides my ministry is Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” It is God’s liberating love that transforms our lives.
When I am not at church, you can find me drinking coffee with friends, enjoying movie nights, or with my son, Benjamin, reading books, exploring outside and having playdates.

After 35 years serving congregations in Minot ND, Rock Valley IA, and Cottonwood MN, I felt led to move to Carver and explore life and ministry options in “retirement.”  I’m excited to be living in this beautiful location and getting to know many wonderful people!
Originally from North Dakota, I graduated from Bismarck High School and then Mary College (Bismarck) with a degree in history/secondary education. After a year of fulltime employment at Scheels, I attended Luther Seminary (St. Paul) and was ordained in 1981. I see ministry as the healing of relationships. We’ve all been broken in our relationships with God, family, others, and even ourselves. Through Christ and the Spirit God is at work to bring us into a full and rich life together. In Christian fellowship, including person-to-person encounters, we discover “the life that really is life.”  [1 Tim. 6:19 NRSV]
My wife, Denise Nelsen, and I were married in 2013. Our first life-partners, Brian Nelsen and Candy Demke, each went to their full life with God two years before. Together, Brian and Denise raised Mark and Chad, and Candy and I raised Sarah and Amy. The boys are currently in South Dakota and Colorado, and the girls are in Minnesota.   Three of them are married. We continue to thank God for comforting us in grief and blessing us with the new life we have in each other. To enhance body and soul (and have fun, too) I hope to engage more in archery, biking (self-powered), kayaking, ice skating, x/c skiing, snowshoeing, arts & entertainment, and visiting people!

My life has taken me through many different paths, but through it all, my constant reminder has come from Jeremiah 29: 11-13, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
I grew up in the Dassel-Cokato area on our family farm. As a child, youth and young adult, I was involved with my home church in various ways – Sunday school student, Sunday school teacher, VBS director, VBS music director, church secretary, choir director, and youth director. Church was a place where I knew I was welcomed and felt a peace when I was there.
After graduating from college, my first career brought me into the world of education where I taught for seven years.  I taught fourth grade for three years and first grade for four years. On the side, I was still working as a youth director at my home church. After my first mission trip experience, I felt God calling me to DO more and I decided to attend the seminary. I graduated from Luther Seminary with a Master’s degree in Children, Youth and Family Ministry. Following my seminary graduation, I worked at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria for six years and Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Prior Lake for five years.
My ministry passion and purpose is for every child to know that God has an incredible plan for them and that they are a beloved Child of God.
Outside of the church, I have many other interests. Mostly, it revolves around my family. My biggest JOY fillers are the TREMENDOUS TEN, who are my amazing nieces and nephews. I love getting to be their Auntie!  I also enjoy spending time with their parents (my siblings and in-laws) as well as my own parents. We are a Disney World family – so another interest is planning that next Walt Disney World trip!
