Women's Retreat held January 26-27,2008
A Blessed Retreat at Koinonia

Thirty three women of Faith Lutheran survived a weekend in the woods by a lake in the January deep freeze. Luckily, the temperatures did get above zero. We walked in the woods, had a bonfire by the lake at night with S’mores and conversation, enjoyed stargazing, and enjoyed even more, watching the few who braved rolling in the snow after a hot sauna! No sauna pictures available – we promised! A rambunctious group played games as others were entertained, just by watching.

The book, The Centered Life, was the basis of our discussion and study. Deep thoughts and feelings were shared along with tears and laughter. New friendships were formed along with the awareness of how important it is to belong to a caring church family.

Shelly Hilgers played music she had composed, while Jane Bodahl painted an inspirational work, which she will be giving to the church when it is completed. They were a wonderful example of being called by God to use their talents and being set free from self-consciousness.

Linda Hentges helped us all make a serenity bracelet as a memento of the retreat. Ask someone wearing one of these, what the colored beads represent.

Laurie Denbrook encouraged the creative talents of the embroiderers as they completed several baptismal napkins, which is something Laurie has done on her own for some time. With all the new babies, she needs help. You will hear more from Laurie on making ‘passing quilts” in the near future.

Camey Martinez helped us relax through yoga which improved our focus on prayer (Talking to God) and meditation (listening to God). Watch for announcements as we may be able to offer relaxation/meditation yoga with Camey in the near future.

The thoughtful staff at Koinonia accommodated our needs well. They even gave us a key to get into the kitchen, if we needed a midnight snack! We had great buffet type meals and most of us ate too much.

After the Saturday events and Sunday Worship service, led by Paul Christopher, the group was energized with new hope for more spiritual growth and many ideas on how to enrich our community at Faith Lutheran. The Retreat was a blessing for us all.
